The League of Women Voters of Baton Rouge's monthly Lunch With the League public forum meeting will be held next Thursday, 5/17/11 at Noon in the Bayou Room of the Drusilla Restaurant in Baton Rouge on "The Louisiana Budget: Tax cuts, exemptions, and rebates; Can Louisiana taxpayers afford them this year?" and to offer solutions applicable to this issue. The LWVBR's goal is to present all points of view and to have the panelists' present solutions on each issue presented, so that the audience can leave informed and in position to make up their own minds. Confirmed presenters for the May 17th program are: * Kevin Kane, President, The Pelican Institute, * Jan Moeller, Director, LA Budget Project, LA Association of Non-Profit Organizations (LANO) * John Bel Edwards, Democratic Party Representative * Woody Jenkins, Republican Party Representative It is very important that the citizens of this State learn about the LA Budget as it affects everyone in Louisiana and the reasons for tax cuts, tax exemptions and tax rebates when serious cuts are being made to vital state services, i.e. Education, Health care, etc/ with employee layoffs. LA Citizens need to hear solutions and alternatives that are being considered, which address LA financial crisis and demonstrate a concern for the average citizen, who is struggling to pay the taxes, get an education/job training for themselves and/or their children to earn a liveable wage, and provide for themselves and their families. The luncheon will be held Thursday, May 17, at Drusilla Seafood, 3482 Drusilla Lane, Baton Rouge. Doors open at 11:30 with registration and networking until the program begins at Noon. Reservations are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED as this LWL will be held in the smaller Bayou Room inside the restaurant. Tickets are $25.00 per person. LWVBR Members receive a 20% member discount. |
